Does the idea of actively selling your offers scare the shit out of you? Good! Coz I’m going to help you fix that! No doubt you started your business because you wanted to make an impact. You wanted to be able to do your life on your terms and obviously make some money. But there’s just a little tiny problem; You’re scared of selling!

I mean fair enough right. It is terrifying! Terrifying to make something and then ask people to give you money for it. How scary is that? Something you made; not something someone else made. You made. Because, I’m sure you would have put everything you’ve got into this offer whatever it is, that if someone doesn’t like it “oh my god” what does that make you? A bad person or a terrible creator? An awful entrepreneur?

No, it doesn’t make you any of these things. You are still awesome. You are still cool. You still know how to create awesome content and you still deserve money for what you’ve created. The thing about being an entrepreneur and starting our own businesses, is that most likely we will not have had experience doing that before.

So of course, we’re going to have some huge challenges when it comes to selling something that we created because we’ve never done it before. but that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t do it and that doesn’t mean you’re going to be bad at doing it forever. It just means you need to do a couple of things consistently to get better at it. So, here’s my three tips on how you can get better at selling so you’re not terrified of it any longer.

FIND YOUR FLAVOR OF SELLING

a lot of the time when we’re trying to sell we were all really worried about coming off as Spammy. For me I only really know two styles selling and that’s soft selling and hard selling. And a lot of my experience, especially in my employment nine to five days, was lot of hard selling. You know like; “you need this product”, “you need this item today”, “buy it today”. I just didn’t like that. It felt really forceful and like you’re putting pressure on someone to buy something. And that just didn’t feel right to me.

What I found is that I’m actually a soft seller. I much prefer to be able to give someone the option to decide for themselves if they want to buy something. Then I’ll make the offer. I’ll be like “hey just letting you know I’ve got this coming up. If you want it go for it, if not, sweet. No big deal.” And that’s always been my preferred way of selling because it feels more in alignment with who I am as a person.

Initially when I start my own business, I listened to everyone else who said that you need to go on social media and promote, promote, promote. Just go hard for it. And I did that for a couple of months and yeah, it got me some results, but it didn’t feel right. It just didn’t feel good to me. I was like, “I don’t know these people and they don’t know me”. and I know that’s how it works normally but on social media, but I felt it was a bit more invasive. It was a bit more like “I’m just here to sell something”. And I didn’t like it; so, I stopped doing it.

What I started doing is setting up systems that sold for me, and I focused on building a relationship with my email list. By doing those things, I have made more money than I ever would have continuing that hard sell, spammy strategy, on social media.

The thing you need to ask yourself is; Is your selling strategy in alignment with who you are? Is that actually what you want to do? Are you trying to hard sell when you’re actually a soft seller? Or are you doing too much soft selling when actually you are very comfortable making the hard sells? Figure out what your flavor is and, if you’re not doing it, drop everything else and start focusing on it. Because when you start aligning with yourself, the sales are going to be so much easier.

WORK ON YOUR MONEY BLOCKS

This is almost an indirect way of increasing your sales. Work on your money blocks. Everyone has money blocks. Everyone. And the reason you want to work on your Money Mindset is because over time we get these loops, these ideas, these beliefs, about money that don’t serve us. It could be things like “money is evil”, “it’s greedy to want more money”, “you have to sell your soul to have more money”, “you have to work really, really hard to make money”. And, no matter what you’re doing, no matter how hard you are trying to sell; you are actually going against your own beliefs and so you’re creating conflict with yourself.

To stop this and to be able to align your beliefs with your actions, you need to constantly interrupt those thought patterns that you have about money, that is negative. So that means you need to work on your money mindset. The quickest way I recommend to get started is to start reading books on money mindset or listening to audio books. I’ve also got a couple of posts on money mindset and money blocks that you can check out below.

KEEP MAKING OFFERS

The truth is that the only way you’re going to get better at selling is if you keep practicing it. It’s like a muscle. At first, it’s going to be really, really, really, uncomfortable but over time it’s going to get easier. And as the sales slowly increase, as your audience continues to trust you more, your confidence and trust and belief in yourself kicks in, and then you become unstoppable. Now at first, you might not make sales but that doesn’t mean you stop. You have to get good at it. No matter what. This is business after all.

Please, please, please, don’t give up on this. As I said in previous posts, make a goal to make an offer at least once a month. That’s 12 offers a year. That’s not that much! But it’s enough for you to get more confident at selling. So, by the end of the year you can look back and say “oh my gosh! Why was I this scared little puppy, when making sales is so easy now?” And, bonus, your income is going to be way higher!

All right, so those are my three tips for you today. Make sure you know your flavor of selling and get into alignment with it if you’re not. Work on those money blocks; it is going to make a huge difference, I promise you! Don’t skip this step! And, keep making those offers. Practice makes perfect!
